Château Suduiraut takes its name from the 1580 marriage of Nicole d'Allard to Léonard de Suduiraut; its 17th-century château and gardens, designed by André Le Nôtre (Louis XIV's royal gardener), sit in Preignac, adjacent to Château d'Yquem. The estate was classified Premier Cru in the official 1855 Bordeaux classification and has been owned by AXA Millésimes since 1992, which has invested in restoring the vineyard and winemaking. Suduiraut's Sauternes is made using the region's traditional method of harvesting over-ripe, botrytis-affected grapes across multiple selective passes (tries) through the vines.
