Springbank 15 Year Old from the 2023 bottling run. Like every recent 15, it comes entirely from sherry casks and is bottled at 46% ABV, uncoloured and not chill filtered.
About This Whisky
The 15 Year Old is the core range's sherry bottling, matured in sherry casks with oloroso to the fore. That gives it a darker colour and a heavier, more savoury style than the 10 or 18. Springbank does not blend to a fixed recipe, so each year's batches differ slightly with the casks available, and this one carries the 2023 bottling date.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Prunes and tinned dark fruit, clove, mint and a whiff of iodine and smoked meat.
- Palate: Dense and oily, with fig, walnut and Demerara sugar, cocoa, tobacco and a thread of peat.
- Finish: Long and drying, with soot, leather and a salty trace.
Serving & Food
Pour it at room temperature into a snifter or a wide tulip and sip slowly, neat or with a single drop of water. It stands up to venison, braised beef short rib or a slice of fruit cake, and suits a cigar on the terrace.

About the Distillery
Walk around Springbank and you are also walking through Campbeltown's lost distilleries. The site uses buildings dating from 1828 alongside ones that once belonged to Longrow, Rieclachan, Union, Springside and Argyll, all long closed. The Mitchells had a hand in more than one of them. Archibald Mitchell was a partner at Rieclachan from 1825, and in 1834 his sister Mary built Drumore distillery. By 1891 Campbeltown, with fewer than 2,000 people, was said to be the richest town in Britain per head. Springbank is what remains of that era under one roof.
