About This Whisky
The 15 Year Old is matured entirely in sherry casks, largely oloroso, which makes it the darkest and richest of the regular Springbank age statements. Springbank bottles it in batches, so each year's run varies a little with the casks chosen. The 2021 bottling was drawn in January 2021. Reviewers found it more cask-driven than some earlier batches, heavier on the earthy, savoury side of sherry.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Cured meat, beef jerky, clove, mint and iodine, with prunes and a hint of lobster creel.
- Palate: Viscous and smoky, with kiln soot, tobacco leaf, prune, walnut, fig and Demerara sugar, then cocoa and smoked meat.
- Finish: Builds slowly, with soot, leather and walnut before easing away.
Serving & Food
An after-dinner glass. Serve unchilled in a Glencairn, and allow ten minutes of air before tasting. It goes well with a cigar, with roast lamb or oxtail stew, or with walnuts and a good Stilton.

About the Distillery
Campbeltown sits near the southern end of the Kintyre peninsula on Scotland's west coast, between the Firth of Clyde and the Atlantic. It was easy to reach by boat and close enough to Ireland that the far coast can be seen on a clear summer day. In the 19th century the town grew into a major whisky centre, at one point with more than 30 distilleries and a strong trade with blenders. Only three work there now. Springbank and its neighbour Glengyle both belong to J&A Mitchell, and the sea air and damp climate are part of how the distillery explains its maritime character.
