About This Champagne
Cool temperatures, rain and a harvest that ran into autumn marked 2013. The year's Chardonnay came out fresh and pure with good length, and the Pinot Noir from Krug's historic plots showed a firm, linear build. To add warmth, the blend includes reserve Meunier and other wines from across the first decade of the century, with 2000 as the oldest. Reserves make up 40% of the blend, and the grapes are 43% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 22% Meunier.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Blossom, ripe and dried fruit, lemon, marzipan and a trace of gingerbread.
- Palate: Hazelnut, nougat, jellied citrus and almond, rounded out by brioche and honey.
- Finish: Fresh and long, with citrus pulling the finish tight.
Serving & Food
Pour at 10 to 12°C into a Joseph-style or tulip glass. In a good drinking window now and should hold comfortably into the 2030s. Match with steamed razor clams in black bean sauce, lobster roll or shavings of aged Parmesan.

About the Maison
The Krug family is still part of the house. Olivier Krug, eldest son of Henri and the sixth generation, serves as Director of the House. He was about to take his first job in Paris in 1989 when his father invited him to join the family business instead.
His first posting was more than two years in Japan, where Krug was little known at the time; the country has since become one of its leading markets. He likes to say he has no memory of his first taste of Krug, because a drop was put on his lips the day he was born.
