Kilkerran 12 Year Old is the core single malt from Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, and this is the 2021 bottling. Lightly peated and bottled at 46% without chill filtration, it gives a clear picture of the distillery's oily, coastal style.
About This Whisky
The 12 Year Old is a vatting of roughly 70% ex-bourbon and 30% ex-sherry casks. It first appeared in 2016, twelve years after the stills restarted, and has been released in yearly batches since. The 2021 bottling follows the same recipe, with no added colour and natural oils left in.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Green apple, lemon peel, marzipan and a faint puff of smoke.
- Palate: Mouth-coating and fresh, with citrus, vanilla, butterscotch and a salty tang.
- Finish: Medium-long, clean and gently peppery with fading smoke.

About the Distillery
The original Glengyle Distillery was built in 1872 and fell silent in 1925, one of many Campbeltown casualties in the slump between the wars. The buildings then had other uses for decades until Mitchell's Glengyle Ltd, linked to the family behind neighbouring Springbank, brought them back and began distilling again in 2004. Production is small and hands-on, with the same traditional approach Springbank is known for. Because the Glengyle name was not available for a single malt, the whisky is sold as Kilkerran.
