At 21 years, this 2022 release was among the oldest official Hazelburn bottlings when it came out. Matured mostly in sherry casks with some bourbon wood, it shows how the unpeated Springbank spirit takes on weight and polish over two decades.
About This Whisky
The 2022 edition combines roughly 70% sherry-cask whisky with 30% bourbon-cask whisky and was bottled on 22 April 2022 at 46% ABV. Around 3,600 bottles were released. Later 21-year-old editions used different cask mixes, so the release year matters when comparing bottles.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Dried fruit, heather honey, walnut and fudge, with a touch of old leather.
- Palate: Silky and layered, with spiced orange peel, dark chocolate, vanilla and gentle oak.
- Finish: Long and creamy, with cocoa, a hint of mint and drying wood.

About the Distillery
Campbeltown sits near the southern end of the Kintyre peninsula, and Springbank keeps every step of production inside the town. Barley is malted on the distillery's own floors, fermented slowly in wooden washbacks, distilled, filled and then laid down in warehouses a short walk from the stills.
Most of that stock rests in low, stone-walled dunnage warehouses, with a couple of racked warehouses alongside, all within Campbeltown. When the whisky is ready it goes to the bottling hall on the same site, bottled without chill-filtration or caramel.
