Hazelburn is the unpeated, triple-distilled malt made at Springbank in Campbeltown, and this 13-year-old was a one-off limited edition bottled in April 2021. Its mix of bourbon and sherry casks gives the soft house style a slightly richer, autumnal edge.
About This Whisky
Distilled in June 2007 and bottled in April 2021, this edition was built from roughly three parts bourbon cask to one part sherry cask. Around 6,300 bottles were released worldwide at 48.6% ABV, with no chill-filtration or added colour. The sherry share is what sets it apart from the all-bourbon Hazelburn 10.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Lemon cheesecake, vanilla, digestive biscuit and a touch of orange zest.
- Palate: Ripe peach and crisp red apple, then honey, orange rind and a quiet thread of liquorice and aniseed.
- Finish: Delicate and fresh, with cut grass, honey and glazed dates.
Serving & Food
Pour neat at cellar-cool room temperature into a Glencairn, adding a little water only if the spirit feels warm. Enjoy it with scallop sashimi, a lemon tart or a mild goat's cheese.

About the Distillery
Springbank was licensed in 1828 on the Longrow in Campbeltown, on ground where the Mitchell family had been distilling before licences were the norm. Within a decade the Mitchells owned it outright, and J. & A. Mitchell & Co. still runs it as an independent family business. Campbeltown once had dozens of distilleries; Springbank is one of only three still working.
The Hazelburn name belonged to one of those lost neighbours, a large Campbeltown distillery that closed in the mid-1920s. Springbank borrowed it for its lightest spirit, first distilled in 1997 and made from malt dried without any peat smoke.
