Delamotte Brut is the non-vintage blend from the small Le Mesnil-sur-Oger house that is sister to Champagne Salon. It is Chardonnay-led, fresh and precise, and ages longer on its lees than most non-vintage Champagne.
About This Champagne
The blend is about 60% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 5% Meunier. The Chardonnay, mostly from the grand cru villages of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize and Oger, gives it structure and lift. The Pinot Noir, from Ambonnay, Bouzy and Tours-sur-Marne, adds depth and red fruit, and the small share of Meunier rounds out the aromas. The wine spends about 36 months on its lees before a light dosage, more than double the 15-month legal minimum for non-vintage Champagne.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Lemon, white flowers, ripe pear and a light chalky note.
- Palate: Clean and generous, with a creamy mousse, citrus and orchard fruit, and a little Pinot Noir depth.
- Finish: Fresh and fruity, with good length and a dry finish.
Serving & Food
Chill to about 8°C and serve in a tulip glass. Drink it young, while the citrus is bright. Oysters, prawn tempura and har gow all suit its crisp Chardonnay line.
How to Enjoy
A house Champagne to keep cold for aperitifs and relaxed dinners.

About the Maison
Delamotte was founded in Reims in 1760 by François Delamotte, a vineyard owner, which makes it one of the oldest houses in Champagne. In 1927 Marie-Louise de Nonancourt moved the house to Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, a grand cru village in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, and Chardonnay has led the style ever since.
In 1988 Delamotte became part of the Laurent-Perrier group, the same year the group bought its neighbour, Champagne Salon. The two are sister houses in Le Mesnil, and Didier Depond has run both since 1997. Delamotte keeps its range small: a Brut, a Blanc de Blancs, a vintage Blanc de Blancs and a Rosé, all given longer lees ageing than the legal minimum.
