Krug Clos d'Ambonnay is Krug's rarest cuvée, a blanc de noirs made exclusively from Pinot Noir grown in a single walled 0.68-hectare plot in the heart of Ambonnay, one of Champagne's most distinguished Grand Cru villages for the grape. The 2002 vintage is the fifth edition of this cuvée, following 1995, 1996, 1998 and 2000, and was released only after Krug Chef de Cave Eric Lebel judged the year a perfect growing season producing fruit of optimal ripeness. The 2002 harvest yielded just 4,743 bottles and 240 magnums, all individually numbered, with a dosage of 4 g/L. Krug recommends service in a white-wine glass rather than a flute to open the wine fully.
