As is usually the case, this is less expressive than the Romanée St. Vivant at this early stage and displays discreet notes of cassis flowers, plum liqueur, anise, clove, cinnamon and exotic tea, all trimmed in notes of sandalwood. This is a powerfully concentrated and overtly muscular wine that possesses a seemingly endless reserve of underlying dry extract that both coats the mouth and buffers the very firm tannins on the strikingly long finish. This is more refined than it usually is as the tannins, while firm, are really quite fine though make no mistake, this will still require 15 to 20 years to arrive at its apogee.
